XenoFileLister (XFL) v.1.07wß - By Matt Lyon
For Use With RemoteAccess v.2.02
This is Wide Beta!
------------------
This is a wide beta copy of XFL, which means that it is not
FULLY tested. It has already been through 5 closed beta versions
(including 1.00ß), so it is well tested, but there is PROBABLY
bugs left. Therefore, if you find any bugs, you are encouraged
to send a netmail message to me explaining the bug so I can fix
it ASAP.
Warranty
--------
XFL is distributed WITHOUT a warranty!
In NO case shall I be held responsible for any damages or losses
resulting from you running this software. By running this program
you have agreed to take responsibility for any problems that may
result. If you do not agree to this, DON'T RUN THE PROGRAM!
This archive may be freely distributed as a whole, without
modification, and without written consent from XenoSoft. No
additions, changes, or modifications of any kind may be made to
the archive, or any of the files contained in the archive without
written permission from XenoSoft.
If you use this program for more than 25 days, you are required to
fill out the registration form included with this archive, and mail
it along with your registration fee to XenoSoft. The form is called
XFL.REG. It is a text file, and may be sent directly to your
printer.
What Is XFL?
------------
XFL replaces your boring default RemoteAccess file lister (you
know, that scrolling list of your online files) with an easy
to use (and much faster) full-screen file lister, very similar
to a lister found on some large commercial BBS's.
NOTE: This program ONLY replaces RA's (type 31) file lister. It
does *NOT* replace your whole File Menu like some external file
systems.
Some features include :
* EXTREMELY Easy configuration. Everything is found
automatically by XFL using your RA environment variable.
NO command line parameters!
* Fits Seamlessly With Your System - No Product Information
Delays (NO UNREGISTERED DELAYS!), etc.
* Works On MultiNode BBS' Without Conflicts (So far)
* Built-In Archive Viewer
* Easy File Tagging/UnTagging (Simply Press The SpaceBar)
* Full Arrow Key Support (With NumLock ON)
* Forward AND Backward Page Scrolling
* Full Security Level/Flag Support
* Recognizes Download Limits, Ratios, etc.
* Pop-Up Help Screens
* FULL Colour Configuration (Registered Only)
* 'Intelligent' ANSi/Avatar Display
* Support for filelist Headers/Comments made by Frame, etc
* Ability to start listing at a chosen point in the alphabet
* And a Lot More!
Installation
------------
It will be assumed that XFL will be installed in the C:\RA dir.
If you choose to use a different dir, sub it in for C:\RA in the
following procedures.
*** MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RA ENVIRONMENT VARIABLE SET!!! ***
Also, at the moment, XFL does NOT support ANSI filelist headers. If
you use ANSI filelist headers, XFL may not work properly. ASCII
filelist headers should work fine, though, although I don't
recommend using ANY filelist headers with XFL.
If you are running a multi-node board, SHARE MUST BE INSTALLED to
avoid conflicts. It should be installed anyhow for ANY board, but
some fools may not be using it. ;)
Step 1) run RAFILE COMPRESS. That will remove all the extra crap
that may be building in your TXT database (when you delete files,
the descriptions still stay in the database). We have found that
this clears up some problems. I recommend putting RAFILE COMPRESS
in your nightly maintenance (it will save you some hard drive
space as well!).
Step 2) Load up RACONFIG -M and go into your File Menu. Make a new
entry RIGHT ABOVE your regular (Type 31) file lister. This is where
you will set up XFL.
Do NOT take the Menu Entry out for your regular (RA's) file lister.
Step 3) Make this new entry the same hotkey as your regular (type 31)
file lister. Make it a type 7 (Shell) Exit, and for optional data,
put 'C:\RA\XFL.EXE *X' (without the quotes, of course). The *X will
write to/read from the tagfile, so your users can tag/untag files in
XFL.
Step 4) In the same menu entry, go to Terminal, and toggle ANSI, AVT,
and RIP so that they are all ON (with an X).
With this set up correctly, ASCII callers will bypass XFL (hence
the toggling of the Terminal), and will still go into RA's default
file lister. XFL uses a LOT of ANSI codes, and therefore ASCII
callers must still use the regular lister.
If you do not have enough memory, add a '*M' to the optional data
to make it swap out of memory. You *SHOULD* have enough, but some
older systems may not. Keep in mind that using the '*M' will slow
down your system, and therefore XFL will not appear to be as
'seamless' as it should be.
You may also want to load up RA's language editor and blank out
the "Loading, One Moment..." message to make the lister a bit
more 'seamless'.
Well, hopefully that wasn't too confusing. =)
Registration Info
-----------------
Registration will enable the colour configuration in XFLCFG,
and will replace the flashing red 'UNREGISTERED!' message in the
corner of the screen with a light blue '(Registered)' message.
Your name and BBS name will also be displayed in the CTRL-R
Registration Info Screen instead of "UNREGISTERED".
If you use this program for more than 25 days, you are required to
Register XFL.
Registration is 10 dollars (Canadian or American). Send your
completed registration form (XFL.REG) and a cheque or money order
(in Canadian OR American funds) to the following address:
Matt Lyon/XFL
238 Westdale Av.
Kingston, ON, Canada
K7L 4S5
If you do not have a FIDONet address (and you do not have access
to netmail on a board with a FIDONet address), please include a
self-addressed stamped envelope with your order.
Your code(s) will be sent to you ASAP.
P.S... If anyone would like to have their board name and number at
the bottom of this DOC as a distribution site, just send me a netmail
message, and I'll put you in the next DOC. I will also notify you of
new updates/releases.
